The UK government published its response to the National Commission's recommendations on the regulation of AI in healthcare on October 6, saying it accepts all 44 recommendations.

The response says the recommendations will shape a future-ready framework for developing, regulating and adopting AI in healthcare, and that work will continue with regulators, the NHS, industry, academia and patients.

Among the planned steps, the MHRA intends to consult by spring 2027 on clarifying when software and AI products count as medical devices, including possible carve-outs for some administrative, wellbeing and decision-support tools.
